A man is at Grand Central Station waiting for his train that leaves at 6 p.m., but he has forgotten his watch. So he looks for someone to ask the time. He spots a guy carrying two suitcases and sporting this fabulous hi-tech watch, so he asks him for the time.

The guy replies “Sure, which country?”

Time Management Tips For People Short Of Time

What is the most valuable thing you possess? You may say it is your home, your car or your pension. You might consider it to be your relationships with your family and friends or you could think it is the love you feel for and from those around you. All of these things have value but are they the most valuable thing you possess? How about time?

You can work all your life and become rich and successful but if you never learn to appreciate your time then when time begins to run out you may well look back and wonder why you wasted so much time worrying about money, wealth and possessions. When time runs out they all become valueless to you.

Time is the most important thing we can ever have. Without it we have nothing yet we all waste it as if it were dirt. You may watch a silly program on TV and while you watch it you may enjoy it but afterwards. Do you think it was a good use of such a limited resource as time?

We are fortunate to be here, living and breathing and able to enjoy wonderful relationships with friends and family. Spending quality time with your family is surely one of the most rewarding things we can experience. Yet, we have to work and by working we are able to support our families and enjoy time with them but we also work long hours to buy TVs, computers and gadgets when we could maybe make much better use of that working time.

When we are trying to decide what we want in life and where we see oursleves in the future how much time do we spend thinking about time? We compromise constantly and don’t do the things we want to do because we have limited time and do the things we have to do. How much time do you spend working just to buy a new car. You have to decide if that is the best way to use the time you have.

Very few of us pay real attention to our time steadily ticking away. We think of time as minutes rather than years. We rush to cash the train on time but we use up our time carelessly not thinking about how satisfying or rewarding our use of that time has been. We should think like a time manager. We are not talking time management for business here. We are talking about time management in our personal life.

Those people who do understand that learning time management can really help them make the most of their lives generally lead happy and rewarding lives. They may, or may not, be wealthy but they know the value of time. Other who do not understand run around in circles always struggling to keep up with the constant demands on their time.

Whenever you hear of a term like time management you will almost certainly think of it in relation to business and that is where it is most commonly practiced but it makes so much sense, perhaps more sense, to apply it to our personal lives. It effectively makes extra time for us to be able to enjoy the rewarding aspects of life.

Effective Time Management and Your Small Business

Effective time management becomes one of the most important things you must do on a daily basis if you own a small business. For some people it doesn’t seem to matter how long their day is. They just never seem to have enough time. The clock is ticking and it ’s ticking too fast for comfort. It feels like they have a million things to do, a couple thousand of which were actually due last week and every new task is urgent and can’t wait…

Sounds familiar? Well if it does you might be one of those people who just don’t have a very good relationship with time. It is often a sign that you’re not in control of your own day timer. You may have some things on your to do list that you set out to accomplish, but anything and everything that you come across interferes with your plans. Someone or something else seems to be claiming your time to the extent that you never seem to get anything done. You might be asking yourself: “How can I possibly get everything done?” Good question. The answer is very simple: “You can’t and you shouldn’t want to”.

Wanting to get everything done is probably the main reason why so many people are short on time. They’re trying to do too many things and fail to realize that there are only so many tasks that one person can accomplish in a day. Instead of focusing on getting everything done, focus on those things that really need to get done. Separating what ’s important from what ’s not important will help you prioritize your tasks. And once you’ve done this, just remember that priorities are in order. That means that when you’re working on something with a high priority it is okay to turn down someone asking you to do something that has a lower priority.

Time is an area where we can be absolutely sure that everyone is treated equally. No matter where you’re from or what your background is everybody has the same amount of hours in a day. The difference is in how we choose to spend those hours.

Every night before your head hits the pillow, take a piece of paper and write down the 5 most important tasks you must accomplish the next day. Write them down in the order of importance. Then the next day start on the first task and don’t move on to the next task until the first has been finished. Then move on to the next item on the list. If you get sidetracked just come back to your list as soon as possible and move on.

Some pointers that may help you in this direction:

Become more efficient in your communication. This means: on the phone, in emails or letters, and of course in face-to-face conversations. A lot of time spent in communication is very inefficient. This is especially wasteful because you’re not just wasting your own time but also somebody else ’s .

Touch everything only once. This can be a really great time-saver. Every piece of information should preferably pass through your hands only once. This goes for mail, email, but also things like certain websites, articles, newspapers and other sources of information.

In order to do this successfully you will need to learn how to make decisions quickly. Some decisions just aren’t worth too much of your valuable time. The ability to make decisions is one key to becoming successful anyway. So why wouldn’t you want to speed that process up a little.

Effective time management will make your day more enjoyable because it allows you to be more in control of your time. Once you master this there is nothing you can not do to make your small business operate more smoothly.

All tasks are evaluated using the criteria important/unimportant and urgent/not urgent and put in according quadrants. Tasks in unimportant/not urgent are dropped, tasks in important/urgent are done immediately and personally, tasks in unimportant/urgent are delegated and tasks in important/not urgent get an end date and are done personally. This method is said to have been used by US President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and is outlined in a quote attributed to him: What is important is seldom urgent and what is urgent is seldom important.

Time management at work…have you got it mastered? If you are still complaining there are not enough hours in a day then we have a simple solution to your problem. In fact, it could be as easy as reading an activity statement after a few days. Few people realize being productive is not simply a matter of being busy; if you are not focusing on results then anything else you try may be a waste of time.

Can You Make Time Management Work?

Sure you can. However, it will take a little discipline on your part but once you get the wheels in motion, it ’s amazing what a difference it can make in just about all facets of your life.

A common answer to most people ’s time management and organizational problems is to get a diary. While they have their place in our day-to-day responsibilities, diaries are really just a superficial fix. Why? Because unless your diary can speak to you and remind you you haven’t completed a task you’ve written in there then you may as well just try and commit things to memory.

Time Management Facts

Recent studies have shown people will have at least 50 interruptions during the course of a day. In fact, given a working day is still eight hours, this can equate to almost half the working day being wasted because of unproductive distractions.

Time Management At Work - Doing The Productive Stuff

This is an area where most people will get into trouble. Distinguishing between low and high priority tasks. You know what I mean in fact, I was notorious at getting the priority stuff done ahead of the high value stuff and couldn’t figure out why I was so busy all the time but achieved very little.

Concentrating on results is the answer and until I was introduced to an activity statement, I was forever sailing around like a ship without a destination. They are a wonderful thing these activity statements believe me! They don’t lie. Every minute of your working day is recorded and if you have an ego, then be warned, it could get dented. But all in the name of getting you to make some necessary adjustments to your schedule to get you on the path to becoming a more productive and less stressed person.

Auditing Your Activities To Make Time Management Work

For self employed people they are an excellent way to identify the areas that need attention. After all, if you are the one responsible for generating your own income then doesn’t it make sense to know where you’re wasting time on low producing tasks but ignoring potentially high productivity areas.

You record each and every activity you perform during working hours including seemingly insignificant things like checking email. After a week, analyze your statement and you will immediately see where you are most productive and when you are unproductive. You can then schedule the higher value and more difficult tasks for your high production times. You can also cut down or completely eliminate wasteful tasks from your day.

Time Management At Work - Achieving Results

It will take a little discipline at first but a time management activity statement can really help you to turn your productivity levels around. Once you perform the exercise, it becomes addictive and in most cases, it ’s a process many will continue to apply. Are you ready to know the truth?

Life is overwhelming and with everything we take on ourselves it can seem down right impossible to get everything you want to get done.

First, what you should do is write down everything you need to do and organize it by priority. Most important first. If you have someone in your life that knows you well they can help you write your list and keep you from putting things that aren’t very important in front of important things. Then get out your calender and write it down. Set realistic dates and times to get what you need to get done. You may find that you’ve been over burdening yourself. It is at this point you may realize what you thought was so important really isn’t and you can drop some things off of your list. You may be able to delegate some of it if you have partners or people that work under you. Or do it if you have time. Leave some time for yourself in order to avoid stress. And you should also leave some time in case an emergency pops up or some new important project leaps to the top of the list. The important thing to remember is to not stress. Stressing makes any time you have less productive. And don’t procrastinate it always take twice as long to get something done when you procrastinate.

Draw Attention to You and Through You to Your Business

Remember the person that is selling your service or product is you. If you are not motivated about your product or service neither will your customers be. If you don’t show them that they have a need for what you are selling they won’t buy. If you don’t promote your product chances are the customer will never even see it.

It has been noted that a person has to see something seven times before they will remember it. That goes for just about anything you sell. If you are not confident in yourself and in your product or service potential customers won’t be confident in it. You need to be so confident in your product that you would be willing to give a full refund should it not meet with a customers satisfaction and you should not be shy about advertising it.

You should be able to tell a potential customer exactly why you think this product or service is something that they need in their life. You should know every aspect of your product or service that you can let a person know on the fly what you are selling and why they want it.

I am talking about your approach to your business. You need to be confident and if you aren’t you should either learn more about the product or service you are selling till you become confident, or not sell it. You will not succeed if you can’t sell your product. If you can’t motivate someone to buy they will not buy. So do everything you can to learn and be comfortable with your product and service. Become confident in yourself, your product, your service and your business.

Keeping Visitor Attention

Did you know that web site content is what draws the attention of
web site traffic (visitors) at your web site? And there is a specific
formula for getting and keeping the attention of your web site
visitors. The way to draw ones attention is by introducing intrigue
or curiosity.

This business education is designed to drive this point home and
introduce you to this four-letter anagram AIDA.

AIDA is an anagram for the process of crafting good content. And
stands for ATTENTION, INTEREST, DESIRE and ACTION.

A is to get the attention of your visitor, when you get their
attention, they are giving you the opening you need to build in
some I or interest for your offer.

When you create interest, you can develop that into desire for
your offer. Once you have effectively created the desire your next
duty is to get them to a or take action and join your database.

That was not as so difficult as it may have appeared to be on the
surface. But now let me elaborate by introducing you to the second
part of this article. If you do this right, it is like getting your own
personal keys to profit heaven.

Does AIDA make it a bit more concrete for you and how you might
apply it in your web site content? When I learned about AIDA to
spice up my web site content and started using it I began to get
more web site traffic.

Not just any old visitors that happen to stop in by accident. I
began getting highly targeted web site traffic.

I cannot claim that you may get the same results like I got. But if
you follow the formula you will get measurable results. As I
mentioned earlier, intrigue and curiosity are the fuel to activate
your visitors.

Web Site Content Must Include Curiosity or Intrigue

The amazing angle that drives all else (the hook)
Your bold benefit driven headline (purpose is to make the reader
want to read the next sentence)

Your intriguing story opener (speaking directly to them)
Your benefit list (bullet points)

The third party voice you will use as testimonials to conquer the
two levels of belief (believing that you are telling the truth and
believing that it will work for them, not just you)

Your close that gets them to act now (tells them what to do next)

Your P.S. that pulls them back into the marketing message (the
second headline)

Your voice for the message (is it to come from you personally or
someone else)

Use curiosity throughout the whole process (tease and tantalize
them) (trigger their desire for more)

Note: One of the motivating human emotions is curiosity. If you
speak your visitor’s WIIFM (what’s in it for me) language, offer
them the benefits they are looking for, however do not give them
all the details of what your offer provides (keep them wondering
and off balance) they are sure to want more.

Web site Content is the bedrock of your web site. If you do not
satisfy the interest of your visitor, your visitors will find other web
sites that will. The trick is in understanding the use of using the
most efficient use of content.

It should be used in such a way that it incites an emotional
response (feeling) from your web site traffic through content
bonding.

The bottom line is that you must provide compelling web site
content for your visitors. Writing articles is one way to introduce
your compelling web site content on your web site. We have five
senses but only hearing and seeing may be used online to get
your compelling message across.

The better you advertise your business the more customers you will have - that is an obvious fact. Whether you advertise on TV, in a newspaper or online the commercial or ad will have to be seen repeatedly if you want people to remember it and your business.

Advertising is something for which big companies budget hundred of thousands of dollars because they know that is what it takes to sell a product or service. You can’t expect to simply affiliate with some company and then let the money roll in. That is not how it works. Any company that says such is scamming you.

It has been said that more businesses will start operating online and that in the future most business will be done this way. Many people believe that in the future they will not have to leave their homes to go to work, and that most of the jobs will be technical in nature.

Even now it happens more and more that people are staying home and either working for themselves or someone else via secure networks and servers. An online marketplace in which most business is done on the Internet opens a great deal of different markets and jobs than businesses had access to before. You can do business over the Internet with someone even if you are in the United States and your customer is in China.

And that is the most important thing that the Internet offers you as an entrepreneur. It opens your business not just to a town or city where you live, but to the entire world. There are people on the Internet in every country, so with your business online you can be showing all the products or services that you offer to Billions!

This provides wonderful opportunities to those who get online as soon as possible. Distance Learning and Working!

The Internet has opened another way to work and learn that is more convenient to most people. Imagine getting up, having your first cup of java and sitting down at you computer. You are now at work or school. It is that simple.

A lot of the more technical jobs offer this kind of distance working. With such a job you can from your own home console log on to the Internet and then onto a secure network where you can then type, email and write what you need to for your job.

Distance education is a little different in that you usually also get tangible materials sent to you. You then can work on the material and then email or fax your work to your professor for grading. When test time rolls around you will be sent the test to complete via mail or email. Some classes have video conferencing so that you can watch the teacher demonstrate to you what you need to learn. This type of class is great for the busy mom or hard worker who wants to get a degree but has a constrained schedule.

If you work with documents and the telephone, you may not be required to be at your desk at work every day. You can ask at your employer if the possibility of working out of your home is an option. More and more it is becoming a viable option.

There are many ways to advertise your business but the one that attracts the most attention on the Internet is banner ads. Some companies offer to make free banner ads for you via a script on their website, but they are often tacky and not very professional looking.

You want you business to stand out from among the rest of the banner ads and logos. You need to have a professionally designed banner and logo so that you are the first person that a customer thinks about when they think of the service or product you are offering.

You can go to a professional designer but often they will charge you exorbitant fees for a custom banner or logo. The more well known the company, often the more expensive the design. There are smaller design companies that do just as good a job as the bigger companies and are more affordable.

Often a custom-designed banner and logo will be made exactly the way you like it and reflect your company better than a templated design. Most of the time if you have some basic idea of what you want the designer can then work up some samples for you and then you will be able to pick and choose which banner and logo you want.

Having a professional banner and logo will set you apart from other companies and give you an edge to get more visitors to your website or store. You do this along with some smart online advertising and you will have a customer base that will stay with you, especially if you offer special discounts and promotions.
